"USDA/ARS Research on Pacific Northwest Grass Seed Production"

An overview of USDA/ARS National Forage Seed Production ResearchCenter research to improve the profitability and sustainabilityof Pacific Northwest grass seed production systems will be presented. The talk will focus on issues faced by the industry since the phase-down of open field burning in the states of Oregon and Washington and include current production issues and opportunities for biofuelproduction with straw feedstocks.

Biographical Sketch

Dr. Banowetz received his Ph.D in microbiology from Oregon State University in 1978 and has worked with ARS in Corvallis since 1984. He conducts personal research on biofuels and integrated farming systems in the Pacific Northwest and is the administrative head of a unit that includes fourteen scientists.
