Introduction to the CommunityThe CommunityOregon State University is located in Corvallis, a community of about 50,000 situated in the Willamette Valley between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Coast Range. The climate is Mediterranean with sunny and generally cool summers. Many outdoor activities are within easy driving distance including the Pacific Ocean, skiing, hunting, wilderness camping, and sail boarding.
The UniversityIn 11 schools and colleges, Oregon State University enrolls more than 19,000 students, of which 2,600 are at the graduate level. Most of these students come from Oregon, but the other 49 states, and numerous foreign countries, are well represented. Over 1,300 foreign students from more than 90 countries regularly study at OSU. Courses are offered at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels in many different programs of study. Oregon State University is a state assisted institution and is part of an eight-member Oregon University System of Higher Education. The faculty of more than 2,000 comes from across the United States and from various countries of the world. There are other institutions associated with the university such as USEPA Terrestrial Laboratory, USDA Small Fruit and Forage Seed Laboratories, and US Forest Service. |
