Agenda
- Andrew Ross - our new food chemist should arrive in early July
- A priority staffing request may be sent out by CAS - the administrative
team will review our recent staffing plans and come up with a draft request
for review by the faculty
- Faculty who wish to change position focus - see
proposed policy below
- Greenhouse development project - see below
- Revised graduate admission policy - see below
- A date will be set for the next departmental meeting after the dust
settles over the next few weeks
Faculty Who Wish to Change Program Focus - Proposed
Policy
- Faculty member confers with associate and department heads
- Draft job description written and head confers with other department heads
if potential for conflicts
- Proposal for position change presented to faculty by the administrative
team for input from faculty; this may include committee review if teaching
responsibilities could be impacted; administrative team notifies associate
dean of possible change and seeks comment
- Administrative team makes final recommendation
- Specific work is beginning on planning and seeking funding for a new
greenhouse complex - OSU and OUS approval granted
- Funding is envisioned to involve three partners - federal, state and
private donors
- Private donors must be in place before state or federal funding can be
sought
- Ray McNeilan will lead the private fund drive
- Tentative timeline is to start private funds drive by the end of the year
and to be positioned to seek state funds in 2003 legislature
- Pat Hayes and Bob Henderson will represent the Department on the planning
and speakers bureau committee - they need your input as they will help
design the final version of the complex - location, layout, facilities type,
future expansion, etc.

New Graduate Admission Policy
- In effect for student applying to enter OSU in Fall 2002.
- Primary features of the new procedure include:
- The student sends admission materials to the Admissions Office.
- Admissions enters basic tracking data into Banner and sends a notice
to the student of any missing materials.
- Within 48 hours of the application materials being received, they are
forwarded from Admissions to the academic department.
- All applications are forwarded, including those without an application
fee.
- The academic department reviews applications and follows up with the
student regarding any missing information.
- Unusually complex applications may be referred back to Admissions for
review.
- The academic department returns applications to Admissions, indicating
which students are to be admitted.
- Admissions completes full data entry and admission procedure only on
those approved for admission by the department. Other applications are
not processed, but kept on file per state records retention guidelines.
- Trial basis with review at end of years 1 and 2
