Welcome

CamelinaThis webpage is your portal to an array of information about oilseed crops which has been derived from a number of sources.  A significant part of the recent year information reported was/is being drawn from work done under two grants, one through the Oregon Department of Agriculture and the second through the Western Regional Sun Grant Association.

ODA Grant - The Oregon Department of Agriculture-Oregon State University oilseeds project has been funded, in part, by the Oregon Legislature to gather information about oilseed crops that can potentially be grown in the Willamette Valley for use in bioproducts production. Western Oregon agriculture is diverse and complex. Many factors must be considered when evaluating crops that could potentially be grown. The potential for impact on established crops and cropping systems must be considered in regards to such factors as cross-pollination, changes in insect and disease pressure, and weed and volunteer crop control. Economic assessment of oilseeds in relation to other crops dominant in the Valley is also part of this project.

Western Regional Sun Grant Association – The Western Regional Sun Grant project is funded by USDA, Department of Energy and Department of Transportation grants.  Through each of the regional Sun Grant Centers research monies are provided for an array of biofuel and bioproducts activities.  Sun Grant funded research on the new-to-our-region crop camelina began in 2007.  The intent of this OSU-WSU-UI joint effort is to provide practical information to regional growers on varieties, seeding dates, planting practices and fertilization for maximum economic return.

Findings from each of these research efforts as well as from many other sources are provided through this web site.
