'Sara I' hooded barley

'Sara I' is a stripe rust resistant hooded spring barley developed by Hugo Vivar of ICARDA/CIMMYT in Mexico.  Pat Hayes, OSU barley breeder, brought a collection of CIMMYT stripe rust resistant hooded lines to Oregon in 1998 and two lines ('Sara I' and 'Sara II') were selected from plots grown at the Klamath Falls Experiment Station.  'Sara I' was evaluated in California in 1999 as a potential component of forage mixes and was reported to be suitable.
