1999 triticale nitrogen rate trials at Corvallis, OR

In our 1998 triticale variety trials we observed low protein concentrations in the higher yielding varieties. The protein yield per acre, however, was similar among both high and low yielding varieties. We conducted these N rate trials to see if protein in the high yielding varieties will increase with higher N rates. We found that protein and yield both increased as N rate increased. We did not reach a plateau, suggesting even higher N rates may further increase yield and/or protein. These trials will be repeated in 2000.

As phenomenal as the yields in this trial appear, they are similar to Alzo and Bogo yields in the Corvallis winter grain variety trials, the North Valley winter grain variety trial and the 1999 triticale variety trials.

NOTES:

Alzo and Bogo are winter triticales from Poland.

All seed was treated with fungicide and Gaucho (insecticide).

Seeding rate was 30 live seeds per square foot.
