Seeding rate calculator

The recommended plant population for:

dryland grain production east of the Cascades is 20 plants/ft2.
irrigated grain production east of the Cascades or high rainfall regions such as the Willamette Valley is 30 plants/ft2.

To calculate a seeding rate, you need to know the germination rate and 1000 kernel weight (in grams) of your seed. Some seed lots are labeled with number of seeds per pound. You can calculate 1000 kernel weight as follows:

1000 kernel weight = 454,600 / (number of seeds per pound)
