CSS/GEO 335H: Water Resource Science Connections

Meeting Time and Place: TR 1400-1550, StAg 226
Course Overview:
1. The students, during the first week, will determine the format and the content of
the course in discussions.
2. Possible formats are:
- One or a few major projects on a water topic, by small groups or by the entire class.
Guest lectures, readings and discussions could provide background for the project(s).
- Reading, writing and discussion of a chosen, limited list of topics.
- Lectures and videos for a chosen list of topics, with projects for the remainder of the
work.

- competition for water in arid landspolitics and technology
- global water resources and the Earth summit
- water allocation in the western USA
- water allocation during drought
- lifestyles in arid environments
- water uses in rituals, attitudes toward water
- hydrology concepts
- water qualitylaws and enforcement
- clean and affordable drinking water
- watershed management for runoff pollution
- local watershed councils for planning and restoration
- Salmon in the Northwest as an integrating water issue
