CSS 438/HORT 438/AREC 438/ANS 438. Exploring World Agriculture

Course Objective:Students Eating

Exploring World Agriculture is a course that allows students to learn about the agriculture of a specific location. The course identifies a geographic location and then investigates and researches the crop, livestock, food production, and related factors of that area. History, culture and political impacts are presented. The course invites OSU and community members with expertise in the selected geographic location to instruct the class.

The course is taught on the OSU campus during the Spring term and then students are invited to travel as an OSU group to the geographic location studied. The trip is planned for September for Northern Hemisphere sites and during December for Southern Hemisphere sites. It is hoped that trips will alternate between domestic and international sites. A trip to New England was taken in September of 2006 and students visited Australia in December 2007. The Spring 2008 term will present Western Canada as the focus with a trip to Calgary and Victoria BC planned for September 2008.
