Friday, May 16 (275 miles)

7:00 AM: Leave from west side of the Crop Science Bldg.
9:00 AM: Quick rest stop at Sandy River
9:15-11:15 AM: Travel to The Dalles
11:15 AM: Arrive Orchardview Farms in The Dalles; meet Bob, Ken, and
Diana Bailey; fresh sweet cherry production, processing, and marketing
12:45 PM: Depart Orchardview Farms
1:00 PM: Lunch stop, Celilo Falls Park
1:30-3:30 PM: Travel to Hermiston (HAREC)
4:00–5:30 PM: Meet with Phil Hamm and HAREC staff
6:00-7:30 PM Dinner in Hermiston
8:00 PM: Return HAREC for overnight

Saturday, May 17 (148 miles)

6:30 AM: Rise and shine. No-host breakfast arrangements in Hermiston (McDonald's??); purchase lunch ingredients
8:10 AM: Depart for IRZ.
8:20 AM: Arrive IRZ Irrigation Consulting, Hermiston; meet Mary Corp, Umatilla County Crops Agent; visit with IRZ owner and manager, Fred Ziari, and IRZ staff about irrigation and water issues in the Columbia Basin
10:00 AM: Depart IRZ
10:15 AM: Arrive Walchli Farms, John Walchli owner, and Charlie Fetterhoff. Asparagus, potatoes, peppers, buffalo, other issues
12:20 PM: Depart Walchli Farms
12:40 PM: Arrive Madison Butter Creek Farm, sack lunch on lawn; meet Mary Corp, Umatilla County Irrigated Crops Agent and Kent Madison, owner and operator. Discussion of biosolids and ranching in the 21st century
2:30 PM: Depart Madison ranch for Wasco
4:30 PM: Arrive at Wheat Acres near Wasco; meet Sandy Macnab, Sherman County Extension Agent, and the Kaseberg family (Chris and Carrie, Larry and Sherry). Tour Wheat Acres dryland wheat operation. Catered dinner by the Kasebergs followed by a short presentation and discussion around an open fire. Overnight in barn, shop, bunkhouse and home

Sunday May 18 (288 miles)

6:30 AM: Breakfast graciously provided by the Kasebergs
9:30 AM: Depart Wheat Acres
11:30 AM: Rest stop
12:00 noon Meet Steve James, County Extension Agent. Review irrigation and agriculture issues facing the Agency Plain Irrigation Project
12:45 PM: Arrive Richard and Terry Macy Home; luncheon graciously provided by Macy families; descriptions of Macy operations by Richard; potatoes, mint, onions, garlic and other seed crops
3:15 PM: Depart Macy Ranch
7:00 PM: Arrive Crop Science parking lot
