How to Apply to the Graduate Program

The Department of Crop and Soil Science is looking for talented, driven graduate students committed to making a difference in agriculture and natural resource management.

Admission to Oregon State's Graduate School requires that an applicant must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a scholastic record and other evidence indicating aptitude for satisfactory graduate work. For more information, see the Graduate School's Minimum Graduate Admissions Requirements

GRE is required, unless waived by a CSS graduate faculty member.

International students must show evidence of competency in English. A score of 550 (paper test or 213 computer test) on the TOEFL exam is required. Learn more about International Graduate Admission Requirements.

In addition, the Department of Crop and Soil Science requires you to find a major faculty advisor who will accept you as a student.  Prospective graduate students are required to contact a potential faculty advisor directly to learn about available graduate research opportunities and funding prior to applying to the Graduate School. Please identify a potential faculty advisor from the faculty advisor list and contact them via email to determine whether they are able to serve as your advisor at this time.  Most of our faculty only accept students who can bring full funding with them. Sending a current CV allows the faculty member to consider your potential fit within his or her research program. To learn more about research areas, explore the Department's Graduate Faculty list.

Letters of Reference

We require that your letters of reference be submitted online through the Graduate School. Within two days of submitting your application, you will receive a link to the online reference management tool, where you can enter the names and email addresses of your references. They will receive instructions on how to submit letters and will receive reminders, if necessary. More information about online submission of letters of reference is available from the Graduate School.
