Mission

Oregon State University's Extension Service provides education and information based on timely research to help Oregonians solve problems and develop skills related to youth, family, community, farm, forest, energy, and marine resources. It carries out its mission by extending the research knowledge base of the University to people who need the information, and provides leadership in applying this knowledge to the problems people have identified.

What We Do

Extension is the off-campus educational arm of Oregon State University in Corvallis. Our job is to take the University to the people. We help Oregonians apply scientific knowledge at work and at home.

Through its county agents, Extension gives people like you access to the resources at Oregon State University. It carries the research and information needs of Oregon communities back to the campus.

Oregon State University and similar Land Grant universities in other states are centers of research in agriculture and many other subjects.

It's important to teach students what is known in each of these academic areas. OSU does that. But it's also important to take this knowledge out of the classroom and put it to work where it will get results.

For instance, producing food, growing timber, developing our ocean resources. And at the same time encouraging practices that protect our soil, water, and air for future generations.

Extension encourages people to apply the latest scientific and technical knowledge both on the job and in their personal lives. We translate scientific knowledge into useful, practical programs.

Today, the OSU Extension Service conducts educational activities that reach into the major sectors of our state's economy, helping to keep them innovative, competitive, and productive. We offer programs in agriculture, forestry, coastal resources, home economics, 4-H youth, community development, and energy.
