Alfalfa

Alfalfa is the most widely grown legume crop in the United States and most consider it the backbone of the US forage industry. It is widely adapted and has the best feed quality of all commonly grown hays. Alfalfa is a broadleaf perennial legume with purple or yellow-white flowers. It is a short-lived perennial with a deep tap root. It produces many stems from its growing point at the soil surface (crown). Alfalfa seed are small, bean-shaped, and yellow, brown or black in color.
