Red Clover

Red Clover

Red clover is the most widely grown of all the clovers. It is used extensively for pastures and cover crops in the Northeastern United States. It grows best under moderate summer temperatures with adequate rainfall. It does not grow under cool conditions as well as crimson clover nor as well in hot conditions as alfalfa or other clovers. Leaves have three leaflets, are hairy and have a distinctive inverted, V-shaped, light-colored marking on each leaflet. Seed are smaller than those of crimson clover, more kidney shaped and duller in appearance.
