Tall Fescue

Tall Fescue

Tall fescue is a deep-rooted, long-lived perennial grass. It is a bunchgrass but also produces short underground stems. It produces dense sods. Though a cool-season grass, it is drought tolerant and will survive hot summers. Tall fescue is extensively used as a pasture grass throughout the Southeastern United States. Tall fescue has coarse leaves and pasture varieties are not generally suitable for lawns. Finer-leafed, turf type varieties have been developed and were first available in the 1980s. Lawn use of turf types continues to grow because of their drought and stress tolerance.
