Current Work Focus:
The objectives of the barley research project are to (i) develop novel genotypes that will maximize the profitability and sustainability of crop production and (ii) broaden our understanding of the genetic mechanisms controlling quantitative trait expression. Barley is an ideal model system for these endeavors. There is a long history of classical genetics research in this diploid species and extensive genomics resources are available. Current areas of research include winter hardiness, malting quality, food quality, and quantitative disease resistance.
