Biography/Current Focus

I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Crop Science. My main interests are grass seed production, herbicide resistance and genetically modified crops. In particular, I am interested in genetically modified grasses and how their adoption could affect agriculture. My project is about gene flow from glyphosate-resistant creeping bentgrass. I am analyzing the extent of gene flow in this outcrossing, wind pollinated, perennial grass. We would like to know how important seed dispersal and pollen movement are for the spread of the transgene. Also we are looking at the potential for interspecific hybridization with compatible relatives.

I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina where I got my degree in Agriculture Engineering at the Argentinean Catholic University (UCA) in 1997. Soon after that, I started working as a Teaching Assistant and then as Assistant Professor at the UCA teaching the Plant Protection course, and General and Inorganic Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry labs. In parallel to teaching, and since 1998, I had conducted grass variety evaluation trials for Barenbrug Argentina at Balcarce, in the south east of Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Since 1996, I also have been in charge of managing the grass seed production fields my family has close to Balcarce, Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2002, I came to Oregon State University to pursue my M.S. degree, which I finished in 2004. My Master’s thesis was about plant growth regulators and field burning in creeping red fescue seed production.

When I am away from work, I spend my time biking, hiking, dancing, or doing origami. During the summer I enjoy camping, backpacking and rock climbing, and during winter I love to go skiing and snowshoeing. I am grateful of the fact that Oregon has so many options for doing outdoor activities.
