Single students have a wide choice of housing and dining accommodations. Both one-term and academic year contracts are available. Information can be obtained from University Housing and Dining Services. Graduate students with families are encouraged to ask for information about student family housing.
Anyone interested in applying for student family housing owned by the University should contact Housing and Dining Services in advance of the projected need. Other listings and pertinent off-campus housing information are available in the Memorial Union and via the web through the local newspaper (www.gazettetimes.com)
Graduate assistantships generally require full-time work during the summer and one-third-time (14 hours/week) during the academic year (average .49 FTE appointment). Beginning salaries are adjusted each year. Some projects have grant-funded assistantships available. Students on graduate assistantships must register for 12 hours per term. Appointments for less than .49 FTE may be made, depending upon the requirements of the program.
Two Merit Research Assistantships are available each year (application deadline is February 1).
Group health insurance is available through OSU.
Prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact the Department about the availability of major professors and financial support, if needed, before seeking admission to the Graduate School. Admission to OSU does not guarantee admission to the Soils Program.
