Responsibilities:
Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary corn research team. This individual will assist in overseeing daily operations associated with a comprehensive corn breeding program aimed at developing new commercial inbred lines. Major responsibilities include planning and scheduling of activities for the program: planting of breeding nurseries, data collection and processing, pollination and harvesting. Coordinate short and mid term activities with line development team and other groups to ensure timely and efficient use of resources for the location. Participate in task-related document creation and review process, for both program related activities and overall safety of the site. Use of research equipment such as planters, combines and hand held computers for data collection. Other important functions include assisting in computer related activities, equipment maintenance and providing support for testing activities such as operation of shelling systems, seed counters and seed treaters. Actively participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies. Additional responsibilities include training and supervision of temporary employees, interacting with and assisting the testing team, and assisting with site safety requirements. Bi-lingual candidate who can speak conversational Spanish preferred.
Required Skills:
BS degree in agronomy, plant science, or related discipline. Familiarity with corn breeding methodologies, experimental field plot design, and corn production practices are desirable. Individual leadership with excellent written and verbal communication and people management skills, organizational and record keeping skills. Proficiency with database management and spreadsheet software is required.
Saturday work will be required seasonally at planting, pollinating and harvest.
Winter nursery travel may also be required to assist with other global projects. |

Assistant Agronomist
General Purpose of a Grower: to assist Senior Agronomist in making recommendations pertaining to fertilizer and chemical applications to both Watts Bros. crops as well as our customers (pea, corn, potatoes, onions, carrots, and vineyard).
