We are honored to announce that our current CSS Department Head, Dr. Tom Chastain, was recently recognized as a Fellow in both the Agronomy Society America (ASA) and Crop Science Society of America (CSSA). Fellow is the highest recognition bestowed by each of the societies and is considered a top career honor with only 0.3% of membership receiving such recognition. Recipients of these awards are nominated by colleagues based on their professional achievements and meritorious service. Dr. Chastain was presented with the two awards for his outstanding contributions to agronomy/crop science through education, national and international service, and research.
As a faculty member, Dr. Chastain’s research has been aimed at increasing yield of seed crops while understanding the underlying biological processes limiting greater economic and environmental efficiency of seed production. He has authored over 240 scholarly works and attained distinction in teaching throughout his career. In his current role as Department Head, he has successfully employed innovative approaches to leadership and administrative management. We are not only proud of our CSS leader for his many career accomplishments but are especially excited that he was selected for such distinguished awards from two important societies. He was recognized as a Fellow at the ASA and CSSA Annual Meeting on October 30th in St. Louis, Missouri. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Chastain on his outstanding achievements!
