Dan Curry, Director of Seed Services, retired on December 31 after 19 years of service at OSU. He will continue on a 1039-hour appointment in the coming year for continued seed services work. Dan was a Mid-Westerner with a BS from South Dakota State and MS from Iowa State. He worked in industry and on a number of roles at Iowa State University, including being the Director of the ISU Seed Lab, prior to coming to OSU in 2006. He was hired as the Director of Seed Services in 2006. This was a newer position at that time that recognized the need for a person to have oversight and greater coordination of the OSU Seed Lab, Seed Certification and Foundation Seed Services and to serve as a consistent and reliable interface with Oregon’s vast seed crops industries. Given his success in that oversight role, Dan was asked by the College of Ag to serve as the manager of the four Corvallis-area CAS farm units. A need had again been identified for greater coordination and communication among the farms.Dan was successful in both roles and all the units under his supervision have thrived and grown in their exploration of new ways to better serve their broad array of clientele. We thank Dan for his calm, steady and insightful oversight of these diverse organizations that are critical the success of Crop and Soil Science, CAS and OSU.
