Welcome Dr. Shayan Ghajar

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Shayan Ghajar has joined the Department of Crop and Soil Science as Assistant Professor (Practice) – Extension Organic Pasture and Forages effective August 1, 2021.  Dr. Ghajar will be leading our department’s efforts in delivering extension programming in organic pastures and forages as well as conducting research in this area.

Shayan earned his bachelor’s degrees in History and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Virginia; M.S. degree in Rangeland Ecosystem Science from Colorado State University; and his Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Environmental Science from Virginia Tech.

Following completion of his doctorate, Shayan was a postdoctoral scholar at Virginia Tech where he was engaged in smart farming research – he worked as part of a team on integrating drone and robotics technology and machine learning into pasture and grazing systems.  He has also served as the Equine Extension Program Coordinator at Virginia Tech’s Middleburg Agricultural Research & Extension Center.
