• (2021) Increasing the Reach of Integrated Pest Management Through Community Partnerships This publication summarizes the learner-centered education methods and community outcomes of three Extension partnerships. These projects increased the use of integrated pest management and pesticide risk reduction practices in Oregon. The insights gained from these partnerships are relevant to many subjects where educators are working with communities to make progress on shared goals.
• (2016) Adaptive Learner-Centered Education: A Toolkit for Extension This guide includes information and resources to develop an adaptive, learner-centered education (ALCE) program. It helps users plan, execute, and analyze an education program that is based on input from stakeholders, captures learners’ needs, and is relevant to the local context. Although the guide focuses on applying ALCE in Extension, it can be used by anyone interested in working with groups to solve difficult problems.
• (2003) Monitoring Soil Nutrients Using a Management Unit Approach Focuses on how to design a soil nutrient monitoring strategy using management units or zones for soil testing and nutrient application. This approach is designed to provide better information to make nutrient management decisions at a reasonable cost. Using a management unit approach, a grower can vary the amount and type of nutrient applications within a field without the need for grid sampling. Two examples of nutrient monitoring are provided to illustrate the process of deciding when, where, and how to sample, as well as how to interpret soil test results.
• (2003) Using Strip Tillage in Vegetable Production Systems in Western Oregon Discusses results of on-farm research conducted in the Willamette Valley from 1996 to 2001 to compare strip tillage with conventional tillage systems. More than 30 large-scale field trials were conducted on a variety of soils and with different crop rotations. Trials were conducted primarily on sweet corn, but other vegetable crops were investigated as well.
