We are pleased to announce that Dr. Yakun Zhang has joined the Department of Crop and Soil Science as Assistant Professor of Soil Science - Pedology effective November 16, 2023.
Dr. Zhang earned a Ph.D. in Soil Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her master’s degree in Renewable Resources from McGill University in Canada and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Sun Yat-sen University in China. Following completion of her doctorate, Dr. Zhang was a Postdoctoral Researcher and then a Scientist I in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the current winner of the Soil Science Society of America Pedology Award. Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on integrating the pedology with novel sensing technologies and modeling methods to quantify soil spatiotemporal variability across scales (from profile to globe) and understand soil processes as a result of various soil forming factors and soil change under climate change and human activities. Her research involves field observations, field and laboratory-based instrumentation, and computer modeling.
